updated pics of the knife I've been making

Well here's the updated picture of the knife I've been working on. Turned out pretty well. It started life as just a chunk of metal. Now it's a convexed bushcrafting knife with black micarta handles which also started out as chunks. The knife also has mosaic pins that I made myself.

Bushcraft knife for a friend!

Here's a knife I'm currently working on. It's a woodlore style bushcrafting knife made from 3/16" O-1 ground flat stock. I used the stock removal method on my 2x72" belt grinder to shape the design and grind the blade . The blade was ground convex and holes drilled for the pins and lanyard hole. The tang is also tapered to lighten some and mostly cosmetic to add a little more to the design. This is right before it went into the kiln to be heat treated.

A new piece of leather for a classic design!

Here's a sheath I recently made for a friend. The sheath was made for his "Nessmuk". If you don't know who Nessmuk was well you can find out here
The sheath is made from approx 12 .oz tooling leather and saddle stitched by hand. The oil dye used was "british tan" Hope you enjoy the pics.

A knife I made.

Here's a knife I made recently. It's made of 1095, 1/8" full tang with walnut scales and mosaic pins that I also threw together.I heat treated the blade with an evenheat kiln I picked up late last year for the purpose of knife making. It has a 20 degree inclusive scandi grind and it cuts very well and maintains a good edge. I got a little distracted while making the plunge cut, however it's a fine user knife and works well as a draw knife too! Also pictured is the sheath I made for it.

A cedar spoon

Here's a couple of pics of a cedar spoon I carved using a trade knife and a crooked knife. Yes, the crooked knife also resembles a shank you might find up state. The crooked knife served it's purpose, but I'll make a more eye friendly version in the future. My little girl said she was going to use the spoon for breakfast. I just figured yeah right she wont use it, I was wrong. When I asked her what it tasted like she responded " Duh like fruit loops dad!" heh heh just like her mother.
